Tips for Staying Sane While Sharing Coliving Space with Others

Posted in: , , ,

Everyone needs their space and their privacy. While some privacy-minded individuals may prefer to live alone, the cost of doing so near the urban center of a city is often prohibitively expensive. For that reason many people share accommodation out of necessity, and not necessarily out of choice.

7 Things to Know When Moving Continents or Countries

Posted in: , ,

Moving anywhere can be very daunting, especially when you're not going to be joining family or friends at your destination. When I moved here, I had Atala so it was easier, but when I moved from Nigeria to the UK I knew no one at all in Edinburgh, and though the masters programme was a stabilising factor, it was still a massive challenge.

Some Safety Tips For Women

Posted in: , , ,

These tips are supposed to be from the experts but all I could find was that it was posted by a crime alert FB page located out of South Africa sent to them as a chain mail. I wouldn't post it, except I see a lot of sense in some of the tips. There are pointers on what a woman could do if she feels unsafe in a lonely place like a lift or corridor, in a taxi, or in a garage. Read and share your thoughts.

Positive Social Spaces

Posted in: , , ,

I want to use this opportunity to address some of the comments on the Chimamanda post. That post was not meant to offend anyone, but to correct the impression some people got from wrong blogs and sources about what she said the first time around. On this post, a comment actually left a link to one of such wrong information blogs .

It was unfortunate that the comments became embroiled in that which divide us. Maybe I should generally moderate comments on this blog, or have stopped the comments on that post after I saw the way it was going, but I couldn't have guessed how it would end. To anyone who was insulted or offended, I apologize. Adura Ojo, I'm glad to hear you've calmed down, this is for you too.

I may be a hypocrite, but I can never hate myself. Am I perfect? Far from it. Do I try to live a more healthy lifestyle, I do try, but I am also real and true to myself. I eat ice cream and processed foods. I know cell phones and microwaves are radioactive, but I still use them. And yes, I know relaxers may be linked to hair and general health issues, but it is my choice to use them, under advise, at this time.

#ThrowbackThursday - Suits with Hats

Posted in: , ,

Some years ago, I think around 02/03, suits were all the rage, and if you wore them to church, you had to find a matching hat. I think the timing was at the same time as the rise in pentecostal Christianity in Nigeria. I had a few suits myself, and this was my outfit at the knighthood investiture of my dad.

Check out Ibifiri in her own suit - here :)

Happy Birthday to My Wonderful Father

Posted in: , ,

My family in Nigeria just finished celebrating my daddy's 80th birthday. It is also my sister's birthday who shares the same birth month as my Dad. I miss him and all of them so much today especially. My dad is just the absolute best Dad. Of course with my bone-head, we had our issues, but I knew he was always there, and that helped make me the woman I am today.

My daddy had his dreams for me, but at the end of the day, he was also the sort of father that allowed you to live your life. I thank God for the amazing years He's given you so far and I pray for even more happy, healthy, and fulflilled years. Amen. Thank you, Daddy, and happy birthday.

Living Life to the Full - Toolz on Vacation

Posted in: , , ,

Toolz, is a presenter for Beat FM Lagos, as well as the Juice on Ndani TV. She shared these photos of her vacation on Zanzibar, a small Island off the coast of East Africa, via her Instagram page, and it's got me looking forward to summer and vacation time. Sometimes, we get so bogged down with work and forget that all work and no play, more like rest, is not good for us, physically or mentally. This is a reminder to relax, take time off work, and live life to the full.

15 Things I Love About My Nigerian Wife

Posted in: , ,

Myne told me she was writing a post about what some of the features she thought women wanted in their husbands, or at least, what they looked for. I was pleasantly surprised when I caught up with her blog and she had made the post more specifically about what she loved about me [15 Things I Love about my Nigerian Husband]. Of course, I was blushing with modesty, and then the self ego massaging quickly took over. But there is time for everything, and this is time for retaliation. Here are 15 things I love about Myne.

1. She’s intelligent. One of the things I liked about Myne from the get go when we were interacting online was how she would articulate her well-reasoned out views on topics. Even now, there are many times I’ll come up with a proposal on how we should do something, and she’ll point out aspects that I not thought about. Being exposed to her views on issues has really helped me grow as a person.

2. She’s considerate. She doesn't always want to have or get her own way, sometimes she's very willing and maybe even happy to compromise, and let me have my way. I still ride my bike to work, yay! Everybody is still shocked, but on a serious note, why should I stop what I love doing only because I'm married? I do try to be less of a daredevil coming downhill.

Re: Valentine - You asked, I answered

Posted in: , ,

Please forgive my bad hair day, I'd just come out from getting a massage. The picture was taken on Valentine's Day. So I asked in this post for you guys to ask me any thing, and few questions came in which I've answered below;

Did you love Atala instantly or did you grow to love him? and if you did, whats that process like?

Thanks, Prov. I didn't love him instantly but I did admire him [or his mind and personality I should say]. You see, we 'met' online at a message-board. I was a lonely student in a new country looking for a place that felt like home. I found this website of Nigerians and the community welcomed me. He was among those that first interacted with me, and with time as I saw his intelligence, kindness, and level-headedness, I started to crush on him. I knew there was an attraction between our online personas, but he was aloof for a long time and so I just had fun.
